Large pewter JUG known as a “Communion Jug,” baluster-shaped with a high pedestal, a long, flared neck, and a raised lid with a flat top, fully decorated with twisted ribs. The spout is richly decorated with a “rocaille” motif and a dynamic handle composed of foliage scrolls topped by a high, curved thumb rest with a rod-shaped crest.
Hallmark of Johann Adam GWINNER, who became a master in 1754: angel with scales / I.A.G.
Height: 36 cm.
OEHRINGEN (near Nuremberg), Before 1782, date of this master’s retirement
