Large pewter DINNER CARRIER with a slightly flared shape, short pedestal and quarter-round throat, fitted with a dangling handle with circular attachments and its lid in the form of a soup plate with a side grip.
Incompletely affixed hallmark of Jean-Pierre TESSIER received master in 1765: lion rampant to the left / 1765 / (IP TESSIER) Height at the throat: 18.5 cm.
BLOIS, last third of the 18th century

In good condition, a consolidation of a handle attachment is noted.
This is the largest capacity for this center. Let us note in passing that this typology is most often found in Anjou, but that it followed the course of the Loire since it was noted in Tours, in Blois therefore, and as far as Orléans. This object was used by shepherds and field workers, day laborers ... etc.
There were several sizes, the number of which varies according to the production centers, from 4 to 6. The shapes of these dinner holders are variable, they are truncated in Burgundy, pomiform in Ile-de-France, flared in Anjou…; the attachments of the handles, depending on the region, feature cherub heads, rosettes, fleurons, human masks, etc.
