**************
Pewter pitcher with shoulder, oblique plinth foot, straight-sided bowl, and molded thumb rest with a molded and sloping tongue. Unpublished hallmark of Jean III DELAVIGNE, received as master around 1750: winemaker's tool / JDL / P / C (P meaning Pontoise and C meaning Common Pewter).
Height: 22.1 cm.
PONTOISE, Second half of the 18th century.
Perfect condition, with a medium patina.
Rare provenance.
These pitchers, a central theme in many collections, were the wine measures of the Ancien Régime; this explains the presence of the gauging cone visible in the third-to-last photograph, marked with a red arrow.
