Large, solid hammered copper jug in a baluster shape with a truncated conical neck, tall, straight, and slanted feet, and a very slightly domed hinged lid. It has a flat handle riveted to both elements.
A maker's mark, either a marine anchor or a coppersmith's mark, is stamped on the neck and handle.
Height: 35 cm.
SWITZERLAND, PROVENCE, or NORTHERN ITALY, 17th century.
In perfect condition, displaying an exceptional dark and lustrous natural patina.
The entire surface shows fine, evenly distributed hammering facets, a testament to the coppersmith's great skill. The edges of the neck and foot are reinforced with an iron stiffener. The longitudinal joints are made in a dovetail joint. This jug does not have a thumb rest
The interior is tinned for its food-related function (water, milk, wine, etc.). .
