Pewter plate with a rounded, molded rim.
Clearly stamped hallmark: crown / CC / 1709 / TOL. (CC stands for common pewter and TOL for TOLOSA, the city’s former name).
Diameter: 22.3 cm.

In Toulouse, the royal edict of 1691 establishing regulationsregarding the inspection of pewterware was not enforced. The hallmark’s year mark was supposed to be updated annually, but in fact, for this center, only the hallmarks from 1691, 1695, and 1709 are known. The latter continued to be used throughout the century and therefore does not allow for the precise dating of objects bearing it.
Toulouse is not, however, an exception, as we have observed this failure to update the regulations in many production centers throughout the kingdom.
