Very Small Pewter Dinner Carrier - Chalon-sur-saône, 19th Century

Artist: Leroy - Servy
Free shipping within mainland France via La Poste or Mondial Relay.

**************

Rare very small pewter "selfish" lunch carrier, truncated cone-shaped with a quarter-round groove and a domed lid with a central handle. It has a dangling handle with cherub head attachments.
Hallmarked: LEROY-SERVY / CHALON s/s.
Height of the body: 8 cm. CHÂLON-SUR-SAÔNE, Mid-19th century.

In perfect condition.
Note that this model is identical to that of Claude François BOUVIER in Clamecy, from whom it is very likely that LEROY-SERVY acquired the molds.
This object was used by shepherds and farm workers, day laborers, etc. There were several sizes, the number of which varied according to the production centers, from 4 to 6. The shapes of these dinner carriers varied; they were truncated conical in Burgundy, pom-pom-shaped in Ile-de-France, flared in Anjou…; The handle attachments, depending on the region, feature cherub heads, rosettes, finials, human masks, etc.
Bibliography: "Pein Pottery in Burgundy" by Roger Verdier and Daniel Allix.
