Rare Baluster-shaped pewter wine pitcher with straight, oblique foot and goblet, raised flat-roof lid and acorn-covered thumb. Control hallmark: CC crowned / 1709 / TOL (for Tolosa, former appellation of Toulouse).
Height: 21.7 cm.
TOULOUSE, 18th century.

Good condition, well-executed local consolidation at the junction of the body and the pedestal, invisible from the outside.
This baluster shape with a raised flat-roof lid is characteristic of the productions of this, the only French center to have preserved this medieval-inspired typology. I would like to point out in passing that these pitchers were the wine measures of the Ancien Régime. In Toulouse, the royal edict of 1691 regulating the control hallmark was not respected and the 1709 vintage is the last recorded to date. It was used for a large part of the 18th century and therefore does not allow for precise dating of objects bearing it.
