Beautiful Pewter Cimarre - Wassy (champagne), 18th Century

A pewter CIMARRE, baluster-shaped with a high foot, quarter-round bowl, and tasseled thumb rest, fitted with a hanging, bracket-shaped handle.
Unidentified maker's mark of a master craftsman registered in 1703: crowned hammer / RV / 170(3).
Control mark: crowned C / 169(-) / (WAS)SY on the exterior base and a very fragmentary strike of the same mark at the base of the handle.
Ownership mark stamped on the handle: D. ROBINOT.
Height: 26.8 cm.
WASSY (a town located between Montier-en-Der and Joinville), first half of the 18th century.
In very good condition and of fine quality, although a small repair to the neck is noted.
Extremely rare provenance, only the third example recorded to date for this small town in the Champagne region.
The cimarres, of medieval type, were intended for serving wine at the table during receptions. They are very generally from Champagne, originating from BAR-SUR-AUBE, CHAUMONT, JOINVILLE, LANGRES, MONTIER-EN-DER, TROYES, VIGNORY, . A few examples bearing the hallmarks of Besançon, Lyon, Versailles, etc., are listed
