Hallmark of François VAUTRIN, who became a master around 1698: large crowned lily / F.V / 1721.
Height: 27 cm.
SAINT-NICOLAS-DE-PORT, Shortly after 1721.
First recorded example of this type of object from this small town in Lorraine.
The date 1721 mentioned on this hallmark is when this master had his mark re-engraved.Given the date of his master’s certification, it is highly likely that this ewer was made before the years 1740–45
Condition: In good working condition; reinforcement of the attachments for the handle and base to the pedestal is noted.
Bibliography: “Etains de Lorraine” by Bertrand Bergbauer, which reproduces this hallmark.
