Very Rare Pewter Wine Pitcher From Joinville (champagne), Circa 1700
Artist: Pierre Ory
Free shipping within mainland France via La Poste or Mondial Relay
**************
Small pewter pitcher in a baluster shape with a flared foot and neck, and a thumb rest with two seeds. It is encircled by two sets of three bands.
Control mark: crowned C / 1691 / IONVIL.
Mark of Pierre ORY, received as a master around 1674: large fleur-de-lis / PO.
Height: 19 cm.
Low gauge: 0.355 liters.
Level gauge: 0.388 liters.
JOINVILLE, Circa 1700.
This mark, previously encountered, was not identified. Recent archival research has allowed it to be attributed to this master, born in 1649 and received as a master around 1674.
Extremely rare in provenance and size, in very good condition and very well hallmarked. Second baluster-shaped example of this center found in nearly fifty years…
A small casting flaw near the lower attachment of the handle is noted and visible in one of the photographs.
The "Pot" from JOINVILLE at that time held 3.06 liters; the capacity indicated above is obtained by successive divisions by 2, or very precisely 0.382 liters.
