A "wine merchant’s" decanter, known as a "BROC DE CHAI," made of pewter in a biconical shape, decorated with a series of moldings, featuring a "postilion’s boot"-shaped flange and a snap-on lid; it features a handle with internal notches for easier grip.
Quality hallmark: FIN.
Height: 43 cm without the lid.
ILE-DE-FRANCE, mid-19th century

Distortion and a crack at the base; minor dents from use on the body.
This shape is inspired by late 18th-century cooperage designs
