**************

AQUAMANILE (also known as a washbasin, water pitcher, or oscillating fountain) made of pewter in a lenticular shape with a flared rim and two side spouts featuring stylized bird heads, equipped with a swinging wrought-iron bracket complete with its eyelet.
Width: 31.6 cm. Height to the rim: 11.5 cm.
ALSACE (Haguenau?), first half of the 18th century

The object is in good condition; however, a small local repair at the base—virtually invisible from the outside—is noted.
Usually made of cast bronze or brass this extremely rare pewter aquamanile is identical in every respect to another example bearing the hallmark of an Alsatian master attributed to Johannes Andreas Reichmann, a master craftsman in Haguenau, sold for €3,100 on June 12, 2005, by Maître Bisman in Rouen, assisted by Jean-Claude Commenchal, expert.
Another example is reproduced in “Tin door de eeuwen” by A.J.G. Verster.
