Large pewter wine pitcher, known as a "swan neck" pitcher, baluster-shaped with a long neck, flared foot and rim, and a tasseled thumb rest. It is decorated with two sets of turned fillets.
Incompletely applied control mark : crowned C / (F)ALAISE / (1778).
Mark of C or G.BORDE, master craftsman around 1750: soldier (-) BORDE A FALAISE.
Height: 30.3 cm.
FALAISE, Second half of the 18th century.

A fine and large pitcher of the Lower Normandy type II.
Generally, these pitchers were the official wine measures of the Ancien Régime. Two types coexisted in Normandy: the shouldered type and the baluster-shaped type shown here, which is much rarer.
