Pewter PITCHER, with shoulder, flared foot and acorn thumb.
Countermark of Ferdinand Aymé BAZIRE: crossed spoon and fork / BFA
Height: 25.7 cm.
AVRANCHES and SAINT-HILAIRE-DU-HARCOÜET, First half of the 19th century.

Very good condition
This enigmatic countermark has been observed many times on pitchers of the Lower Normandy, Mayenne and Le Mans types.
I now attribute these initials BFA to BAZIRE Ferdinand Aimé, active in these two centers from 1830, deceased in 1851, owner and renter of the molds bearing this countermark. To do this, I crossed these initials with those of the Lower Normandy masters in my database and I obtained a unique answer:  BAZIRE Ferdinand Aimé, active in AVRANCHES and SAINT-HILAIRE-DU-HARCOUËT, at the beginning of the 19th century. and whose initials BFA correspond very exactly to those of his name and his two first names. It is therefore highly probable that this master rented one of his molds to his colleagues in the neighboring centers mentioned above.
