Pewter MILK JUG known as a “Dourne,” oval in shape with a fluted pedestal, cylindrical body, semicircular hinged lid, fixed vertical handle, and a spout shaped like a bird’s head.
Hallmarks of Nicolas SCHWALLER, who became a master craftsman around 1800:
1°- ETIN DANGLETERRE.
2°- Crowned “FIN” / N.S.
Height: 34.7 cm.
LYON, Early 19th century
Beautiful, solid cast piece in good condition.A weld to seal the joint between the body and the spout, as well as an area of pitting at the bottom of the belly on one side, are noted and visible in the photographs.
