Antique Sarough or Sarouk rug from the late 19th to early 20th century (1890-1910).
This delicate piece measures 130 cm wide by 185 cm long.
Originating from Iran, it is hand-knotted from a wool and silk blend.
In very good collector's condition.
The colors remain very fresh, the rug is beautiful and lustrous.
It has two almost invisible old restorations.
The previous owner had the selvedges restored, which are now impeccable, as well as the fringes, which are short and clean. Sarough rugs are very durable and have an excellent reputation for sturdiness.
Our classic-style example with a large medallion displays a great richness of motifs and colors, uncommon for the Sarough type, notably numerous cloud bands.
Its medallion is perfectly integrated, as are its two pendants with graceful interlacing patterns covering the field.

The Sarough rug, also called Hamadan, the Ecbatana of Antiquity, is produced in a few villages, and some European and American buying houses have had branches there since the 19th century.
Many of these rugs are nicknamed Hamadan by merchants, especially passage rugs, a large number of which are made in this region.
These rugs are very popular in the United States, where decorators appreciate heavy, luxurious pieces.
