William Clarckson Stanfield 1793-1867? - Swiss Landscape At Brigue, Canton Of Valais, Circa 1830

Artist: Attribuée William Clarckson Stanfield 1793-1867 ?
An interesting painting, in need of restoration, from the early 19th century (circa 1830), depicting a landscape in the Swiss Alps with a lively farm and a panoramic view of the town of Brig, located in the canton of Valais. The painting is unsigned, but a web search reveals two related engravings (detailed photographs) made from a drawing by the English painter William Clarkson Stanfield (1793-1867). Unless I'm mistaken, no painting exists to provide a direct reference, so it's possible to attribute it to this painter, who stayed in Switzerland between 1828 and 1830. Some of his landscapes can be seen on Google Images and are technically quite in keeping with this style. Note: this painter is primarily known for his seascapes, and it would be worthwhile to seek the opinion of a specialist, as his Swiss and Italian landscapes are less common on the market. A tip for those interested in research. This artwork needs restoration as it has suffered the ravages of time, with some losses and wear, traces of old varnish, and soiling here and there. These are typical details: with a little care, this painting should regain a very beautiful appearance, as its quality is undeniable. Canvas size: 37 cm x 28 cm; Frame size: 50 cm x 42 cm
