Pupil of the romantic painter Charles-Caïus Renoux, he was born in Tours and went to work in Switzerland where he painted landscapes in the romantic style. Augustin Bader exhibited at the Paris Salon between the 1830s and 1860s Swiss landscapes mainly in the canton of Friborg (View of the Gotteron valley, View of the Tusy bridge, View of the Charmey valley, Chillon castle on Lake Geneva, Cerniat ravine, Black Lake).
