A miniature Kyoto-Satsuma incense burner (koro) with lid, painted and gilt by the Kotobuki-dō (寿伴) workshop of Kyoto. The low, circular body with loop handles and short spout displays wisteria, chrysanthemums and songbirds in a soft ivory glaze framed by geometric gold bands. The lid, original and finely matching, shows small professional joins and light age rubbing to the gilt. The graceful form and delicate brushwork embody Kyoto refinement at its most elegant.
