Superb pair of Chelsea porcelain figures from the Gold Anchor period, circa 1760, representing a Rococo pastoral couple — the shepherd with bagpipes and his companion (originally with flute). Each figure is gracefully posed on a gilt scrollwork base with sheep, lamb, and dog, surrounded by applied flowers.
Chelsea’s soft-paste porcelain of this period was technically and artistically superior, with increased whiteness and refined enamels. Each bears the gold anchor mark, denoting one of the most desirable periods in English porcelain.
