"Helena Wolfsohn Dresden Lidded Ginger Jar, Blue Ground, Meissen-style, Ar Mark, C. 1880"
Superb late 19th-century lidded ginger jar by Helena
Wolfsohn, Dresden, finely painted in the Meissen style with Watteau-inspired
scenes and floral panels on a rich blue ground. Lavish gilt ornament and
hand-painted cartouches decorate the lid and body. Classic “ginger jar” form,
inspired by Chinese export porcelain but adapted for decorative use in
19th-century Dresden. Marked underglaze blue “AR” (Augustus Rex) on the base,
as used by Wolfsohn’s atelier to evoke the royal tradition of Meissen
porcelain.
A fine and highly collectible Wolfsohn ginger jar, combining
Meissen-inspired artistry with Dresden’s technical excellence.
