Antique Japanese Meiji Period Satsuma Vase By Shuzan With Stippled Gold (c. 1900)

Artist: Satsuma

This fine antique Japanese Satsuma vase is a distinguished example of Meiji period craftsmanship, dating to circa 1900. Produced by the Shuzan studio, this miniature vessel demonstrates the intricate decorative skills associated with the Kyoto school of earthenware.

The vase features a cream crackle-glazed body densely covered with gold stippling, creating a textured, shimmering ground. It is painted with overglaze enamels and gilt, depicting scenes of daily life with figures in traditional kimono, juxtaposed with a serene landscape panel.

The attention to detail in the facial expressions and the textile patterns is indicative of high-quality export ware intended for Western collectors.
