Antique Porcelain Figurines From The "seasons" Series, Samson, 19th Century

Artist: Samson
The "Seasons" series—figurines of this design, in various interpretations, have been crafted by diverse porcelain manufacturers since the 18th century, most notably by German, English, and French makers. This pair, representing "Summer" and "Winter," bears the gold anchor mark, a symbol associated with the Chelsea porcelain manufactory in England.
In the late 18th and early 19th centuries, Chelsea stood as one of Europe’s most successful porcelain producers, celebrated for both its artistic and commercial achievements. Naturally, many companies sought to capitalize on the prestige of this renowned brand.
One such company was the French firm Samson, founded by the talented designer and copier Edmé Samson. Understanding that a replica must be indistinguishable from the original to command a similar value, Samson created a production process that achieved the highest level of artistic craftsmanship. Even today, many experts find it challenging to definitively attribute certain pieces, illustrating Samson's remarkable skill.
These two figurines, marked with the Chelsea anchor, differ slightly from Chelsea's original works but stand as high-caliber artworks in their own right.
