Worcester Dragon In Compartments Coffee Cup And Saucer, England, C.1820

Artist: Royal Worcester

An elegant antique Worcester porcelain coffee cup and saucer dating to the Flight, Barr & Barr period of the early 19th century. The rounded coffee cup and matching saucer are decorated in the celebrated Dragon in Compartments pattern, featuring a sinuous oriental dragon alternating with reserves of precious objects and floral motifs within richly gilded panels.

The vivid famille-verte palette of iron-red, emerald green, cobalt blue, soft yellow and purple is enhanced with finely tooled gilt rims. Inspired by Chinese Kangxi prototypes, this pattern became one of Worcester's most admired decorative schemes by the Regency period, and comparable examples appear within the historic Flight Collection.

Dimensions:

  • Combined weight of the pair: 228 g
  • Cup: height 6.7 cm; diameter 6.8 cm; width with handle 9 cm
