Davenport Victorian Bone China Sauce Tureen Set, C.1845-1860

A rare Victorian English bone china sauce tureen with its original cover, stand and matching presentation platter, produced by Davenport, Longport, Staffordshire, circa 1845-1860. Decorated in Davenport's Pattern No. 1680, the set features broad hand-painted gilt bands following the moulded gadrooned decoration. The cover is surmounted by an artichoke finial, while the Rococo scroll handles retain their original gilding. The elegant form and restrained decoration are characteristic of Davenport's finest mid-Victorian tablewares.

Complete factory-matched three-piece sauce tureen sets are considerably rarer than individual surviving examples. The undersides retain the original pink printed Davenport crown factory backstamps together with the matching hand-painted Pattern No. 1680 on all three pieces, confirming the set as original to the factory.

Condition:

The sauce tureen is in excellent antique condition with the gilding exceptionally well preserved. The stand has slight wear to the gilding and is otherwise in excellent antique condition. The platter has minimal wear to the gilding and remains in excellent antique condition.
