Icon Of The Virgin Of Kazan In A Silver-gilt Oklad And Carved Wooden Box, Moscow 19th Century
Beautiful Russian icon representing the Most Holy Mother of God of Kazan.
It dates from the second half of the 19th century and comes from Moscow.
The icon, painted in warm tones, is enriched with a vermeil covering chiseled with scrolls -- called "oklad" in Russian.
The oklad bears the following hallmarks:
1/ Russian silver title "84" (875 thousandths).
2/ Moscow hallmark.
3/ The initials "SG" (in Cyrillic) of the master silversmith Simon Galkin active in Moscow at the end of the 19th century.
The set is presented in its superb carved and glazed original wooden box. It is also equipped in its lower part with a system allowing the attachment of a lampada or icon light (see photo).
Very beautiful original condition.
