Icon Of The Virgin Of Kazan, Russia 17th Century / Mary Mother Of God / Christ / Jesus
Beautiful icon of the Mother of God of Kazan, dating from the end of the 17th or early 18th century -- circa 1680/1720 -- and originating from the Volga region of Russia.
In this Byzantine-style composition, Mary bows her head toward her son, standing and blessing at her left. Beautiful and tender expression of the Virgin Mary, inviting contemplation.
The icon is painted in tempera (paint made from egg yolk and natural pigments) on a double-edged wooden panel -- typical of 17th-century works. The chromatic range is warm in brown, red and beige tones.
Good overall condition with a beautiful patina. Lacks, cracks, wear and repaints consistent with the age of the work. The background was previously cleaned of its chromatic layer to reveal the gesso, an underlayer with an off-white appearance.
This icon is sold with a certificate of authenticity.
Dimensions: H 30 cm by W 26 cm.
