Icon Of The Virgin Of Kazan, Russia, 19th Century / Mary, Mother Of God Orthodox
A splendid Russian icon of the Virgin of Kazan, dating from the mid-19th century.
Its style, color palette, and great finesse suggest it was created in a workshop in the Moscow region.
This exquisitely gentle painting is executed in tempera (a medium made from egg yolk and natural pigments) on a wooden panel in deep, warm tones. The cream-colored background is particularly striking and lends a great sense of softness to the entire piece.
The halos and garments of Christ and Mary are also richly accented with gold leaf and gilding.
In very good overall condition. Minor signs of wear consistent with the age of this work.
This superb collector’s piece comes with a certificate of authenticity and a complete description.
