"Fernand Maillaud 1862-1948 - Large Impressionist Painting - Antibes & The Bay Of Angels"
Large & luminous impressionist painting from the 20s which represents a vast view of the Mediterranean shores with the silhouette of the Alps in the background... The work is signed lower left by Fernand Maillaud (1862-1948) an excellent artist to whom the Bénézit devotes an important chapter and whose biography can be read on the Wikipedia site: in 1891 he was part of the group of post-impressionists gathered around Paul Gauguin (1848-1903) and throughout his career he often exhibited with prestigious artists such as Maurice Denis, Maxime Maufra, Henri Martin, Jules Adler and Ker-Xavier Roussel, to name only the most famous... Many museums preserve his works, among which the prestigious; Orsay Museum (Paris) Louvre Museum (Paris) Rodin Museum (Paris) Carnavalet Museum (Paris) Berry Museum (Bourges) George Sand Museum (La Châtre) Saint-Vic Museum (Saint-Amand-Montrond) Bertrand Museum (Châteauroux) Fine Arts Museum (Bordeaux) Note: the place here is not localized but we can suggest that it is a view of the Baie des Anges at the level of Antibes: there is in fact on the web a work by Fernand Maillaud which is titled "Antibes" and which represents essentially the same place from a smaller angle... Values & auctions: the value of the paintings of this artist varies according to their theme and their quality: his record at more than 18,900 euros was obtained at Sotheby's in 2007 for a painting entitled "landscape"... in 2017 at Christie's a canvas entitled "baigneuse au hat" had been sold for more than 13,600 euros: apart from these two records, we note among its results more than a hundred sales between 3,000 and 12,000 euros / Source Art-Price Panel size (rigid cardboard): 75cm x 53 cm Frame: 88 cm x 66 cm - ask me for other photos if necessary-
