"Vincent Manago 1878-1936...tall & Handsome Orientalist...a Lively Street In Algeria"
Large and remarkable orientalist painting from around 1900 which represents a pleasant, lively scene in a street in Algeria... The work is signed by the painter Vincent Manago (1878-1936) to whom the Bénézit devotes an important chapter and whose biography can be read on the Wikipedia site: he was especially active in Marseille where he exhibited regularly at the fair between 1900 and 1913... The artist stayed regularly in Algeria and Tunisia, producing orientalist works during his travels which were presented at the Colonial Exhibition in Marseille in 1931. note: Vincent Manago is an artist who made "replicas with variants" of his own paintings, which explains why we find several versions of this theme of "Animated Street" / see on Google-images: there is for example a version very close to the painting proposed here which is kept at the Cantini Museum in Marseille / see last pictures.
