Large and pleasant impressionist canvas from around 1920-1930 which represents a luminous scene in a half-timbered farmyard with an old basket maker at work... The painting is signed lower left by Georg Hilgers (1879-1944) an excellent artist of the German school who is mentioned in the Bénézit and whose biography can be read on the Wikipedia site: he studied first at the School of Applied Arts in Düsseldorf then at the Academy of Fine Arts in Düsseldorf. He painted mainly landscapes and still lifes... Between 1917 and 1920 he exhibited at the Great Annual Exhibition of Arts in Düsseldorf... Towards the end of the 1930s, he stayed in China to teach at the Catholic University of Beijing... Canvas: 75 cm x 59 cm --------ask me for other pictures if needed-------
