"Large Canvas 1820-1830...cuirassier Horse Lost In A Napoleonic Battle "
Large and magnificent painting dating from the years 1820-1830 and which represents a rather spectacular scene with a cuirassier horse which seems frightened and lost in the middle of battle: on its saddle is the number 5, which corresponds to the 5th Cuirassier Regiment of the 1st Napoleonic Empire which was baptized thus in 1815, and which was originally a cavalry regiment created during the French Revolution... note: the canvas is not signed but it would deserve serious investigations to identify its author or at least try to obtain an attribution: the period 1820-1830 corresponds precisely to that where renowned artists like Théodore Géricault (1791-1824) Horace Vernet (1789-1863) or Alfred de Dreux (1810-1860) will produce works where the "horse" will hold a preponderant place in the French painting of the time.. In Compared to the respective works of the artists cited here, it seems obvious that this painting is of "excellent hand" as they say in the jargon of experts and art dealers - note some old restorations (visible on the back) without real consequences on the quality of the work - Canvas size: 81 cm x 65 cm Frame: 102 cm x 86 cm - ask me for other photos if necessary -
