"Very Large 19th Century Biblical Drawing - Fresco Project - Joseph With Child Jesus -"
Very large old biblical drawing made in charcoal or black stone, from the middle of the 19th century around 1830-1850, which represents Saint Joseph holding fleurs-de-lis, in the company of the child Jesus: it is probably the preparatory drawing for the creation of a painting or stained glass window for a church, chapel or other religious buildings since we can see a squaring... The drawing is not signed but its beautiful quality suggests the presence of an excellent artist: note that French religious painting experienced at the time of the Restoration (1820-1830) a revival among so-called Classical or academic artists which continued throughout the reign of Napoleon III.
