"Chenard-huché 1864-1937 - Large Impressionist Canvas - View Of Montmartre & Moulin De La Galett"
Large & luminous impressionist canvas from the end of the 19th century which represents a rather exceptional view of the Butte Montmartre in Paris with the famous Moulin de la Galette and on the right the tower called "Philosphe": at that time the place was called by the Parisians "le Maquis" because it was a vast wasteland made up of modest huts and small vegetable gardens... note: this canvas is signed at the bottom left by Georges CHENARD-HUCHÉ (1864-1937) a post-impressionist painter to whom the Bénézit devotes a good chapter and whose biography can be read on the Wikipedia site: he made his debut in Paris at the Salon des artistes Français in 1887, the year when Vincent Van Gogh (1853-1890) produced one of the most beautiful paintings of his Parisian period in the same place... Values & auctions: the value of this artist's paintings varies from a few hundred to several thousand euros, depending on their theme and their quality: its record at more than 5100 euros was announced at Sotheby's-London for a canvas which precisely represented "a view of Montmartre under the snow in 1909" (HST: 72 cm x 49 cm) / Source Art-Price.
