"Léon Gambier 1917-2007 ...large & Beautiful Painting...lumberjacks In A Forest"
Large and remarkable painting from 1957 which represents a beautiful autumnal landscape with lumberjacks hard at work in a forest... The work is signed by the painter Léon Gambier (1917-207) an excellent artist to whom the Bénézit devotes a chapter and whose biography can be read on the Wikipedia site: born in Dieppe, he was first a student at the École des Beaux-Arts in Rouen then continued his training in Paris at the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs... in 1959 he was appointed Official Painter of the Navy... note: one of the attractions of the painting proposed here is its remarkable technique which is somewhat reminiscent of the style of certain Nabis painters, such as Édouard Vuillard or Pierre Bonnard who oscillated between "Japonism" and "Synthetism". - note that his works are kept in the collections of several museums such as those of Belfast (Northern Ireland) - Boulogne - Dieppe - Frankfurt am Main (Germany) Values & auctions: the value of the paintings of "Léon Gambier" varies from a few hundred to several thousand euros and this depending on the quality of the works: his record at 2300 euros was obtained in 2019 for a canvas which represented a view of "Pors-Poulhan near Audierne"... This record exceeded the two previous records at 1646 & 1524 euros which had been obtained respectively in 1992 & 1996 / Source Art-Price. - I point out a small shock in the canvas (cliché detail) and some slight lacks, without consequences on the quality of the work and quite basic to correct - Canvas size: 61 cm x 46 cm - ask me for other photos if necessary -
