• A fine example, delicately hand-colored at the time.
• Condition : Presence of alterations and pigment migration from the original hand-coloring in certain areas (brownish tones around mountains and forests). Small tear at the bottom (see photo).

This map of the Duchy of Savoy, Sabaudia Ducatus, is the most famous antique map of Savoy! First published in Amsterdam in 1630 by the Dutch geographer Jodocus Hondius, it was copied many times thereafter. The map extends from Lake Geneva in the north down to Maurienne in the south and the borders of Dauphiné. To the west, the frontier with France, Lake Bourget, and Lake Annecy (labeled Nicÿ on the map). To the east, the border with Piedmont. The rendering of the mountains does not reflect their true altitude—for example, Chamonix appears to be located in a plain!
