PAIR OF OFFICER'S FLINTLOCK PISTOLS SIGNED "BARTOLOMEO", Ancient Monarchy, 1680-1720. 30096 Octagonal then round barrels, slightly blundered at the muzzles, length 22.5 cm, with the breech tang 25.9 cm., caliber 13 mm. Barrel and lock tangs entirely decorated in gold with a scattering of fleurs-de-lis and corollas of foliage on a blued background, length of the octagonal parts 9 cm. Locks signed on the back of the hammers "BARTOLOMEO", they are adorned with a mask with platinum tangs. Swan-neck hammers decorated in the round with a scroll, screw heads adorned with busts of warriors. Round iron bassinets. Walnut mounts, all steel fittings. Underguards cut with foliage. Openwork counterplates, cut in the shape of scrolls and finished with heads of ancient monsters. Pommels with long ears rising 6 cm, with oval caps decorated in the round with the profiles of Kings Louis XIII and the young King Louis XIV. Molded steel rod holders. Wooden rods with steel fittings and horn heads with steel plates. Total length of each weapon 36 cm. Italian work for the Kingdom of France. Former Monarchy, 1680-1720. Very good condition, barrel colors have been refreshed later. PROVENANCE: Former Robert JEAN-CHARLES collection. Lot 46 of the sale of May 30, 1994 at the Hôtel Drouot. NOTE: BARTOLOMEO COTEL was a gunsmith active in Turin (Italy) from 1680 to 1720.
