BICORN HAT OF A MAJOR GENERAL IN SUPERIOR COMMAND, Model 1872, Third Republic. 30467. Made of black "Flemish" felt, trimmed with a wide gold braid known as a "general's edge" (7.5 cm wide), scalloped with a crest, woven with a double oak branch and its acorns; a curled white ostrich feather is sewn inside both edges; the band is formed of three matte gold twists, doubled around a large gold uniform button for a general officer, Model 1872 (semi-domed, burnished and matte gold, embossed with a trophy of flags and a shield bearing a star, surmounted by a civic crown), tricolor cockade 7.5 cm in diameter. Black silk lining marked in gold with the manufacturer's logo. Black calfskin headband. Length 45 cm - Width 17 cm - Height 10 cm on the right side, 13 cm on the left. France. Third Republic. Good condition, some feathers missing, threads holding the braid to the hat are unstitched.
