19th Century French Medieval-romantic Style Gilt Bronze Clock/jewelry Box
A circa 1860 French ormolu and porcelain medieval-romantic mantel clock, the cast Gothic case with pierced “ears” and 12 inset enamelled porcelain plaques depicting knights, figures in court dress, and military trophies. The top is hinged to reveal a plush-lined jewellery box. The front feet are modelled as dragons with wings outstretched and jaws gaping. The porcelain dial is enamelled with a military trophy, the hours surrounding in roman numerals in gilt on white, set against a gilded deep blue border, with pierced gilt metal hands.
The movement is marked “Silvany À Paris” and “105”. We are advised that it is a “brass twin train movement with a Brocot-type suspension and outside count-wheel striking on a bell”. PLEASE NOTE: We are not horologists and are unable to provide a condition report, instructions, or guarantee for the function of the clock movement. As such, it should be assumed that the clock is not working and requires attention. A pendulum and key are included.
Measurements: 33cm (13in) high, 32cm (12.6in) wide, 16cm (6.3in) deep.
Condition: Good. It should be assumed that the clock movement is NOT working (see description). The small oval porcelain panel at the far right (facing) of the front of the jewelry compartment below the lid has been restored (visible only under ultraviolet light). The plush of the jewelry compartment is worn, and the key to it is missing. Otherwise, no notable damage and appropriate age-related wear.
