"A Large Boulenger Porcelain Plaque From Choisy-le-roi, Paris, From The Late 19th Century"
A large late 19th-century Choisy-le-Roi Paris porcelain plaque of a jester with his performing dog and monkey, possibly after Max Volkhart (German, 1848–1935), signed “Gerarr”. Mounted in a gilt composition frame. H Boulenger & Cie Maker’s mark to reverse (note: Choify-le-Roy appears to be an archaic spelling of Choisy-le Roi).
Plaque measurements:
Height: 30.5cm (12in)
Width: 40cm (15.75in)
Frame measurements:
Height: 39.8cm (15.7in)
Width: 49cm (19.25in)
Condition: Very good. Superficial loss at center of top edge (see image of plaque out of its frame and close-up of loss). The reverse of the frame is untidy, with old tape and recent spring clips to allow easy access to the plaque.
