We are unsure about these. The “W” date mark on the smaller example is clearly incorrect, which suggests hard-paste, late 19th-century “Sèvres-style”. It is also heavier (791g) than the slightly larger example (644g) with the “R” (1770) date mark. The smaller example may be original, 18th-century, and soft-paste, yet the two tiny “flea-bite” (see condition report below) chips on the rim are not large enough to be conclusive indicators of whether it is hard or soft-paste porcelain. Please see the close-up image we have included. Unfortunately, we have not been able to identify any of the decorators’ marks. It is not unprecedented for one of a pair to be Sèvres and the other Samson, see Christie’s, lot 1154, Auction 16185 “A Love Affair with France: The Elizabeth Stafford Collection”, 1 Nov 2018, New York.
Condition: 2 small “flea-bite” chips on the rim of the slightly larger of the pair. The gilding of the top rims of both is worn from usage. No other issues.
Shipping: Free to most destinations. If your destination does not show free shipping, please ask.
