A late 19th century Austrian (Vienna) silver and enamel snuff box, “ss” maker’s mark possibly for Sigmund Scharf. Feint “A” mark for Vienna.
The box is sumptuously enameled with a deep red translucent ground, inset with intricate gilding and enamel panels, inside and out, the cover with a scene of a lady with 2 putti, one of whom is engaged in forging an arrow. The remaining panels, all different, are painted with scenes of landscapes and figures.

Condition: One very small area of unobtrusive damage to the front of the lid (see image with area framed in red), no other issues found.
