Joseph-Théodore Deck (French 1823-1891), an unusual pottery footed basket of squeezed oval form, with a turquoise handle wrapped with a pink spiral, painted with a polychrome decoration, inside and outside, of birds, flowering branches influenced by Isnik and Japanese styles, and butterflies, circa 1880. Printed TH Deck mark to base.

Condition: Good with minor imperfections. Light crazing to the inside of the bowl. Some firing spots. Very light wear to the decoration. Two small “fleabite” chips to the edge of the base rim. Very fine hairline crack to the handle (which we were only able to detect with a fingernail). Two small glaze frits to the rim of the bowl. No restoration.
