Mid C19th French Palais Royal Grand Piano Necessaire / Sewing Box
A 19th century, circa 1850, French Palais Royal mahogany necessaire / sewing box in the form of a grand piano, with boxwood and harewood piano keys set into the lid, ormolu mounts, escutcheon (with working lock and key), and decorations, the box standing on five turned wood legs with ormolu collars and claw feet. The interior of the lid is mirror-lined, the interior of the box has a tray fitted with compartments for sewing implements and accessories, and a scent bottle (all absent), a flower-embroidered pad and a compartment underneath.
