A superb 19th century 22k gold (electronically “Kee” tested) mounted cased ruby cut glass scent bottle of tear-drop form. The top is set with two turquoise Cabochons. The ruby glass is outer-cased in clear glass. There is no stopper with none needed as the lid has an ingenious spring mechanism (see images) that closes a glass seal over the mouth of the bottle when the lid is closed. Whether there would have been an additional cork or felt washer we don’t know. The glass is beautifully cut and of substantial thickness, giving a total weight to the bottle of 4.7oz (134g).
Length: 4.3in (11cm)
Width: 2.2in (5.5cm)
Depth: 0.95in (2.4cm)
Condition: In very good condition. The gold is completely undamaged. The catch works perfectly. The Turquoise Cabochon forming the catch button has a groove, presumably from a thumbnail. The glass on the back of the bottle has minor surface scratches running in a line across it near the end (see final image). There are also light scratches near the same place on the front of the glass, which are too faint to photograph. All are superficial and could be polished out, if desired.
