Saint-cloud Porcelain Manufactory Miniature Toilet Jar, France, 18th Century

A Saint-Cloud soft paste porcelain toilet jar (Pot á fard), circa 1730, decorated in underglaze blue with a wide lambrequin pattern border to the lip and lid, the knop with a flower head, the base rim with a saw tooth pattern.

Maker’s marks: Rare underglaze blue “J” mark, with dot above (This mark is listed by Chavagnac and Grollier (see references)).

Measurements:
Height: 6.5 cm (2.5 in)
Width: 4.7 cm (1.9 in)

Condition: In excellent original condition. No cracks or chips. There are two tiny rough patches (one of the glaze, the other appears to be an accretion) on the edge of the rim of the cover, both of which appear to be original. There are a few spots (peppering) to the inside of the jar.
