18th Century Meissen Porcelain Basket, Marcolini Period

A large, circa 1795, Meissen porcelain, Marcolini period, twin-handled porcelain basket raised on four Greek key-shaped legs with an oval body of pierced looped sides, the exterior applied in relief with pink roses and a large central leaf with raised square cut handles applied to either end. The interior is decorated with a hand-painted estuary scene with four flower sprays to the sides. The underside has an applied central shield-shaped gilded leaf design.

Width: 23.5cm (9.3in)
Height: 17cm (6.7in)

Condition: In excellent condition for age and type. Moderate wear to gilding. Detailed examination reveals a faint 1cm line (actually 2 lines coming from either side but not meeting in the middle) at the foot of one side of a loop (see images). The lines do not extend around the sides. They could be hairlines in the glaze but we think they are more likely to be firing flaws. We mention them for the sake of accuracy but they are nearly imperceptible without magnification.
