Turkish Plate Or Small Dish
We are selling this small decorative dish or plate called “Tabak” in Turkish, made in Kütahya, the second-largest center of ceramic production in the Ottoman Empire after Iznik.
The workshops in this city have been active since the 15th century, but remained in the shadow of Iznik, which held a monopoly on prestigious commissions.
After Iznik’s decline, the workshops in Kütahya took over and became very important through the 19th century—and perhaps even today.
There are many similarities with Iznik ware, but this dish displays characteristics specific to the Kütahya workshops.
It fits perfectly within the late Ottoman style.
From the 19th century, authenticity guaranteed by the invoice.
