Three Miniature Bronze And Brass Candleholders – Chain-style Torches And A Scarab-shaped Candleholder

A charming set of three miniature 19th-century candlesticks, consisting of a pair of chain-handled candlesticks and a small handheld candlestick adorned with a scarab.

These three pieces, crafted from patinated bronze and brass, are of particular interest due to their small size, the quality of their craftsmanship, and their decorative character.

The pair of chain-style candlesticks, 12 cm tall, features an elegant silhouette in the Louis-Philippe style. Their miniature proportions and the care taken in their craftsmanship suggest several possible uses: doll accessories, miniature furniture pieces, or possibly master’s pieces. Their original function, however, remains difficult to determine with certainty.

The decorative chains and the craftsmanship of the mountings lend them great charm.

The small handheld candleholder stands out for its original decoration: a beetle delicately placed in the cup, adding a naturalistic touch to this composition.

This type of animal motif evokes the 19th-century bronze casters’ fondness for insects and small animals, particularly in the style of works produced by firms such as Barbedienne, though no specific attribution can be made.

The set constitutes an interesting collection of small bronze and brass objects, reflecting the care taken in 19th-century decorative arts, even in their most modest creations.

Good overall condition. These objects have been used and show some signs of wear and the passage of time, without detracting from their charm or appearance.
