Moudjour Rug, 106 X 164 Cm, Hand-knotted Wool/wool, Anatolia, 19th Century, Islamic Art

Artist: Art Ottoman
19th-century Moudjour rug, 1850–1900, wool on wool.
This rug measures 106 cm wide by 164 cm long.
These rugs are classified as Anatolian pieces.

Made primarily of wool on wool, in shades of blood red, greige, old gold, golden yellow, straw yellow, and faded lavender.
Very similar to Kir-Séhir rugs in shape and decoration, these magnificent prayer rugs feature a stepped arch for the mihrab.
This arch ends in an arrowhead and is distinguished by powerful, vivid colors full of contrast. These colors are derived from plant and animal sources.

These antique pieces, originating from Anatolia in Turkey, were knotted in rugged, austere, and extremely impoverished mountainous regions.
The staircase-like shape symbolizes the mountains, while the stylized flowers represent elements of happiness, serenity, and peace.
Many newcomers wonder how these rugs have survived to the present day in good condition—or even in very good condition.
Quite simply:
## These prayer rugs are often found in good condition because they have always been carefully preserved by families or by owners and collectors who are passionate about this genre.
It is—and will become increasingly—difficult to find high-quality original pieces, true artifacts; indeed, either families keep them, or collectors guard them jealously.
World history is woven into the wool of these works of art.

This piece is in the condition in which it was discovered; my passion for old Anatolian rugs prevents me from subjecting them to restoration.
Today, this rug is better suited to being hung on a wall and admired like a painting than to being laid on the floor.
After all, it was never originally intended to be walked on.
I think any discerning connoisseur understands this.
This piece is in excellent condition for its age,
and has been professionally cleaned using eco-friendly methods.

##  The world of rugs is a vast and complex field that requires knowledge and dedication.
To me, having at least a basic understanding of their origins, names, manufacturing, and dating is a given.....
This is a profession that cannot be improvised!!!
